We respect leather for the stories it holds, its exceptional durability, and the heritage of craftsmanship it represents. Our handbags are crafted in Melbourne from Italian leather, renowned for its quality and strict European tannery standards. Our bags are designed to generate minimal waste, and by offering a made-to-order model, we create only what is truly desired, with a focus on individuality.
Thoughtful Sourcing
In today’s world, no material is perfectly sustainable, which inspires our dedication to thoughtful, considered work. We carefully select suppliers who share our commitment to craftsmanship, ensuring every material meets our standards of excellence.
While we would love to source locally, Australian options remain limited, with most hides exported overseas for processing. Balancing costs and minimums while maintaining our high standards of quality, consistency, certified tanning, and colour variety has not yet been possible here. Italian leather enables us to uphold the durability, finish, and craftsmanship that define Rue du Pavé.
Our handbags feature high-grade stainless steel or brass hardware, premium magnets, and Riri zippers. Each piece is constructed using water-based glue, bonded leather reinforcement, durable nylon threads, and hand-painted edges.
One of a Kind, Just Like You
Each Rue du Pavé piece is made especially for you. Subtle variations in colour, texture, or finish are part of the handcrafting process and highlight the uniqueness of your piece. These characteristics are not considered flaws.
Made to Order, Not Made-to-Measure
You may select from our available shapes, leathers, and finishes, but we do not offer full bespoke design services.
Interstate & Overseas Clients
For clients outside Melbourne, we offer online consultations and can send leather swatches so you can experience the materials firsthand. Please see our Shipping & Delivery section below for details.
Pricing
We understand that commissioning a bag is an investment. Each piece is made-to-order in our Melbourne studio, where attention to detail, skilled labour, premium materials, and careful presentation are all part of the process. Our pricing reflects the craftsmanship, time, and care that go into creating a bag that is uniquely yours. Prices are subject to change, reflecting fluctuations in materials and production costs.
Payment & Order Changes
Full payment is required before production begins. Once received, you’ll receive an invoice confirming your order. Colour availability is confirmed once payment is received, as we cannot hold materials without commitment. If you’d like to make changes, please contact us promptly. Once production begins, no changes or cancellations are possible. Payment is accepted via bank transfer only.
Production & Completion Time
Production begins once full payment is received. Please allow a minimum of 12 weeks for completion. We may accommodate a specific deadline for an additional fee. Finished pieces are available for collection by return appointment at our Melbourne atelier. While delivery can be arranged, we recommend in-person pickup to minimise the risk of damage during transit.
Authenticity & Warranty
Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity. Please retain your Rue du Pavé tag and e-invoice for any warranty claim. Our warranty does not cover damage from everyday use or normal wear and tear. For minor care or maintenance, we’re happy to assist, passing on only the cost of our time. For serious damage, contact us promptly, and Clémence will personally attend to your bag.
Ongoing Care
Your commission arrives in a protective dust bag. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Protect it from water, blot gently if it gets wet, and allow it to air dry. Natural marks and patina will develop over time, it is part of your bag’s story. For serious wear or damage, please get in touch. Red wine, pasta sauce, ink or other stains should be avoided. Keep your bag away from sharp or hot objects, and avoid overfilling. With proper care, your bag will continue to evolve beautifully.

Acknowledgment of Country
At Rue du Pavé, our roots are French, but our work takes shape in Melbourne–Naarm, Australia. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of this land, who have cared for and protected it for countless generations before European settlement. As immigrants ourselves, we acknowledge their enduring connection to land, waters and culture and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.
